Swift’s contribution was verified by Ellen Kettor, CEO of the Community Foundation. The group manages a fund that helps nonprofits that offer crucial services during a disaster in all phases: emergency relief, rapid recovery, and long-term recovery. Although she is often seen mingling on the East Coast, the Nashville-named Time Person of the Year has ties to Nashville, where she still resides and has her office.
Growing up as a teenager, Swift attended Hendersonville High School in Sumner County, one of several schools, including Davidson and Montgomery, affected by tornadoes that claimed at least six lives, injured dozens, and destroyed homes and buildings.
According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, the tornado that devastated Clarksville in Montgomery County traveled 11 miles with wind speeds of up to 150 miles per hour.
Swift’s contribution might be the first silent charitable investment made by the recently minted billionaire.
This year, Swift made substantial donations to food banks in every American city while on her “Lover” tour.
According to an Arizona Food Bank Network spokesperson, Swift’s contribution increased funding for hunger relief initiatives while enabling the organization to send a tractor-trailer containing 40,000 pounds of fresh produce to its member food banks.
The Silicon Valley Food Bank’s second harvest revealed that during her tour in Santa Clara, California, Swift gave “sufficient donations to feed approximately 500,000 people each month in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.”
Swift’s largesse extends to her home as well. As soon as the Lover tour completed its first leg in August, the singer gave her tour family a bonus of million, including dancers, truck drivers, sound crew, and catering staff.
