The police stated that on Wednesday, the route of a plane traveling in North America was altered because a passenger allegedly assaulted a family member during the flight.

According to a news release from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the incident occurred on Air Canada Flight 137, which was traveling from Toronto to Calgary.
Around 12:20 local time, police received a report of a route change for a flight to Winnipeg due to an “unruly passenger who had assaulted another passenger” at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport.
Upon investigation, it was found that a 16-year-old boy from Grande Prairie had allegedly assaulted a person on the plane, later identified as a family member. The teenager’s residence is in Grande Prairie, Northwest Alberta.
In their statement, the police mentioned, “After the assault, airline staff and other passengers successfully intervened to restrain the youth.” After redirecting the plane towards Winnipeg, the teenager was apprehended.
The police reported that the relative of the teenager received “minor physical injuries” and was treated at the scene. The teenager was taken to the hospital for a medical assessment.
There is no information about any other injuries, and the immediate motive behind the assault remains unknown.
