On Saturday, City released a statement saying, “Manchester City Football Club can confirm that Omar Berrada has resigned from his role as Chief Football Operating Officer of City Football Group. The club understands his decision to seek a new challenge and leaves with our thanks and best wishes.

Berrada has been the Chief Football Operating Officer since September 2020, having previously played a role as Group Commercial Director and Director of Partnerships for City Football Group. Sources suggest that he has left City Football Group in an amicable manner but has chosen to take on a new challenge.

United has been without a CEO since November, when Richard Arnold, who was close to acquiring a 25% stake in the club with Ratcliffe and INEOS, announced his decision to step down. General Counsel Stewart will continue in the role of interim CEO during the recruitment process.

Berrada’s move to Old Trafford marks the first major signing of the INEOS era, with the deal set to be approved by the Premier League in February.

Dave Brailsford, INEOS Grenadiers Cycling Team Principal and INEOS Sporting Director, who has been regularly present at United’s Carrington training ground since the announcement of the deal on Christmas Eve, has resigned from his role with INEOS Grenadiers Cycling Team to focus on his work at United.
