“John Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we feel honored to have him back on Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show,’ providing us all with insight into the madness and division prevalent in the country as we enter the election season,” said Chris McCarthy, CEO, and President of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios, in a statement.

In an era of bewildering hypocrisy and performative political theatrics, John brilliantly cuts through the nonsense and offers much-needed clarity with his sharp wit and intelligence.

More about Jon Stewart

Stewart’s surprising return comes over a year after Trevor Noah ended his seven-year run as the host of “The Daily Show” .Since then, the program has featured a rotating series of guest hosts, including Leslie Jones and Sarah Silverman, but Hasan Minhaj, a presumed front-runner, faced backlash in New Yorker coverage for his candid coverage of his truth in his stand-up comedy, leading to no permanent replacement being chosen yet.

In the past week, after winning an Emmy for outstanding talk series for “The Daily Show,” former correspondent Roy Wood Jr. was seen saying “Hire a host” during his acceptance speech at the Noah-approved Noah language ceremony.

Wood stepped down from the show as a correspondent over a year ago, and since then, a cyclical series of guest hosts has taken over, with Leslie Jones and Sarah Silverman participating. However, the show has not yet made a permanent replacement.

After leaving “The Daily Show” as its host in 2015, Stewart hosted the Apple TV+ show “The Problem with Jon Stewart.” However, it was canceled in 2023. The New York Times reported that the comedian clashed with Apple executives over potential topics, including China and artificial intelligence. Since leaving “The Daily Show,” Stewart has also become a visible figure, representing the first responders of 9/11 as their advocate.
