Who will play guest role in the Disney Channel ?
Gomez will play a guest role in the pilot for the Disney Channel, reprising the character that helped kickstart her career. The series, titled “The Russo Rule,” will feature David Henrie reprising his role as Justin Russo in a regular series alongside new cast members Jenis Lien Brown, Alkaios Thiele (Call Me Cat), and Mimi Gianopulos (American Princess).
Jed Ellinoff and Scott Thomas, writers and executive producers of “Revenge Home,” a comedy spinoff on the Disney Channel, wrote the pilot for the revival. Following a fascinating incident in the wizarding community, adult Justin Russo decided to give up his magical abilities and lead a typical human life with his wife and two sons. However, when an impressive young wizard knocks on his door, his life takes an unexpected turn, and in order to preserve the magical world’s future, Justin must accept his past.
Who played role in Wizards of Waverly Place
The role of the powerful young wizard, Billy, taken under Justin’s protection, will be played by series lead Brown. Thiele will portray Theo, Justin’s eldest son, and Gianopulos will take on the role of Giada, Justin’s wife.
In addition to Gomez, Henrie, Ellinoff, and Thomas, the cast includes Gary Marsh (Disney Descendants: The Rise of Red) and Andy Fickman (Race to Witch Mountain), with Fickman directing.
Marsh had a long tenure as Disney Channel’s top creative executive, serving as the inspiration behind Wizards of Waverly Place and playing a crucial role in bringing Gomez to the network during an open casting call in Dallas.
Produced by Todd J. Greenwald, the original series ran from 2007 to 2012 and was based on the Russo family, where three siblings faced challenges in adolescence while mastering their magical abilities. The cast included Jake T. Austin, Jennifer Stone, Maria Canals-Barrera, and David Deluise, all of whom (excluding Henrie) reunited for the TV special “The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex” in 2013.
The pilot order sparks limited online discussions about the potential revival or reboot of Wizards of Waverly Place over the years. It aligns with Disney-branded television’s strategy to expand its multi-camera sitcom lineup.
Currently, Gomez is a hit Hulu/20th TV comedy series “Only Murders in the Building,” where she stars and serves as an executive producer. Her representation is by LightHouse Management + Media, WME, and SSSKE. Henrie is represented by Untitled. Brown is represented by A3 Artists Agency and MB Talent and Entertainment Management represents Thiele. Theo is represented by DDO Artist Agency. Gianopulos is represented by Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
